“And darling, tell me where did your heart go? / Cause I sure as hell don’t know where your head is at anymore / Do you know what it feels like? Being stuck between two colors on a palette / You’re afraid to mix, so you keep them apart”

Grayscale’s What We’re Missing might be exactly what you were missing. The Philadelphia born band expertly blends alt rock and pop punk to provide a dynamic listening experience that hits you with waves of emotion while you sing along.

While using an arsenal of instruments for the entire album, songs such as “Midwest” and “Bloom” are able to really shine with the addition of twinkling acoustics and even tambourine. Collin Walsh’s voice is an instrument in and of itself, setting the rhythm to already bouncy tracks like “Palette”. Each song, whether it be a jam or a heartbreaker, is packed with meaningful messages that make each lyric a line of a story that you’ll want to listen to on repeat. The production by Gary Cioffi (Transit, A Will Away) and mastering by Grammy Award winning engineer Brian Gardner (The Story So Far, Kendrick Lamar) is impressive throughout but peaks on “Irish Curtains”; maybe the rain effect will hide the sound of the tears that are sure to be provoked by the raw combination of lyrics and vocals.

Grayscale didn’t hold back on any aspect of What We’re Missing and the result is a timeless album showcasing all the band’s potential and talent. With a sound that would allow them to tour with anyone from Neck Deep to Title Fight, hopefully we’ll be hearing and seeing a lot more of Grayscale in the coming year.

Buy it, Stream it, or Skip it?: Buy it! There’s some beautiful vinyl variants, and when this band blows-up you’ll be proud you’ve had their back from the beginning.
