XM Rig Tours NASCAR Winston Cup Circuit

Rounding out its programming lineup as it launches the nation’s first digital satellite radio service, XM Satellite Radio’s “NASCAR Rig” will tour the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit throughout the Southern United States this fall.

XM launched its service Sept. 25 in its two lead markets and expanded throughout the entire Southwest and Southeast in mid-October. XM will complete its national rollout in November.

“XM is proud to offer NASCAR fans the world’s first 24-hour radio channel devoted to America’s most popular spectator sport,” said XM President and CEO Hugh Panero. “Our XM rig will help spread the word as we offer the latest news and information on all the major races in coast-to-coast, digital-quality sound.”

The XM-NASCAR Xperience, XM’s touring display, will feature interactive NASCAR-themed exhibits, games and live demonstrations of XM’s revolutionary radio service, “Radio to the Power of X.”

Among XM’s 100-channel lineup is NASCAR Radio, the world’s first 24-hour channel devoted to America’s most popular spectator sport. Available exclusively on XM, NASCAR Radio brings live coverage of the NASCAR Winston Cup, NASCAR Busch Series and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events through its partnership with MRN and PRN Radio and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Network. NASCAR Radio also provides in-depth news coverage of all 13 of NASCAR’s divisions, interviews, talk shows and other programming covering all things NASCAR.

Led by Program Director Tim Farley, a radio veteran who brought NASCAR to WRVA-AM in Richmond, VA, and veteran NASCAR reporter Claire B. Lang, XM will also create original programming giving fans a voice and access to the sport never before available.

In addition to its NASCAR rig, XM has four other trucks on the road bring XM to such venues as concerts, festivals, and downtown shopping malls.

XM will transform radio, an industry that has seen little technological change since FM, almost 40 years ago. XM is offering its 100 channels of digital-quality, coast-to-coast sound for $9.99 a month and provide coast-to- coast coverage of music, news, sports, talk, comedy and children’s programming. Leading manufacturers including Sony, Alpine and Pioneer are offering a broad array of XM radios including universal models that will easily enable any existing car stereo system to receive XM service, and new AM/FM/XM systems offering many other great features. In addition, Delphi- Delco systems will roll out initially in Cadillac DeVille and Seville models beginning in November and expand to more than 20 GM models next year.

XM’s strategic investors include America’s leading car, radio and satellite TV companies – General Motors, American Honda Motor Co. Inc., Clear Channel Communications and DIRECTV. XM has a distribution agreement with General Motors to integrate XM radios into its vehicles commencing in 2001. For more information, please visit XM’s web site: http://www.xmradio.com.
