Wet Seal launches music initiative with Fall Out Boy

The Wet Seal today announced the launch of an in-store music program focusing on driving licensed merchandise within the music category. The launch begins with the highly anticipated release, Folie à Deux, by Island’s multi-platinum and award winning artist, Fall Out Boy. The program includes a bundle package where customers can get the new release and an exclusive tee by Pete Wentz under his Clandestine label.

“The connection between fashion and music has always existed and is important to our customer. The program we have developed with Island brings so many key elements together, we felt this was a great way to launch an initiative we see playing a prominent role in 2009,” said Ed Thomas, the Company’s Chief Executive Officer.

In addition to the retail elements, the program includes an exclusive contest where one lucky winner will be featured in the next Fall Out Boy music video. Customers need to film a :30 to :60 video for the first release off of Folie à Deux, “I Don’t Care”, and submit it via the Wet Seal website, wetseal.com. The band will choose the winning director based on creativity. The winner will be flown to the location of the video shoot for their cameo. The final video will appear on several music networks, giving the winner national notoriety.

“We are fortunate to have new, creative partners like Wet Seal to develop programs such as these. It helps to build momentum around CD releases and thus drive incremental sales in non-traditional retailers,” said Jeff Straughn, Senior Vice President of Strategic Marketing for the Island Def Jam group.

The program will be marketed in Wet Seal stores, online at wetseal.com, on Falloutboyrock.com and other Decaydance artists’ sites starting today and ending December 24th, 2008.
