U2 And Celine Dion Concert Specials Coming To CBS

Grammy Award-winners U2 and Celine Dion will each headline new concert specials during the 2002-3 TV season on CBS. U2’s concert from the famed Slaine Castle in Dublin, Ireland, will air later this year to coincide with the release of a new album by the band. In addition to their performance, the special will include a behind-the-scenes look at one of the world’s most successful rock bands. The special’s airing will coincide.

Dion will return to CBS in a new concert special set to coincide with the opening of her new show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, which will be directed by Franco Dragone (Cirque du Soleil’s O and Mystere). The special will feature segments from the Vegas show with brand new songs along with Dion’s biggest hits.

Fans can catch a preview of Dion performing on the CBS special A National Salute To The U.S. Military, which airs Saturday (May 25) at 9 p.m. ET. The program, honoring troops returning home from Afghanistan, was taped aboard the U.S.S. Harry S. Truman, the largest nuclear aircraft carrier in the world. Cuba Gooding Jr. hosts the concert special, which features performances by Clint Black, Jessica Simpson, Lonestar, and comedian Jeff Foxworthy.

This season, CBS has aired six of the top 10 most-watched entertainment specials, including Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary Special, The 44th Annual Grammy Awards, and The 35th Annual CMA Awards, among others.
