Tyrese Set For 2001 MTV Video Music Awards Fantasy Date Contest

RCA Recording artist Tyrese never has a problem getting a date, but for this years MTV Video Music Awards, the singer himself is the grand prize in a special “Win A Date With Tyrese” promotion.

Starting August 20th, the Doug Banks Morning Show (ABC) which airs in over 35 million homes, begin offering listeners the chance to be Tyrese date for the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards on September 6 in New York City. Over a two-week period, five finalists will be chosen from a slew of callers. Then on August 30th, Tyrese will appear live on the Doug Banks Morning Show with a list of prepared questions for the finalists, in-which he will pose to them over the air. The lucky winner will be selected for Tyrese by the listening-audience. Listeners can call, fax or log on to Dougbanks.com to cast a vote for the finalist, based on her answers to the questions.

The winning contestant will be flown to New York, where she will be treated to a makeover and shopping spree courtesy of RCA Records. Tyrese will personally pick the winning lady up in a limo, after which where they will walk the “red carpet” with other celebrities and attend the award show.

When asked why he wanted to take a blind date to such a high profile event, Tyrese replied, “I have a lot to be grateful for. This is my way of making someone else’s dream come true.”

“2000 Watts,” Tyrese’s follow-up album to his 1998 platinum-certified self-titled debut, which spawned such smash hits as “Sweet Lady” and “Lately,” and earned him an American Music Award and a Grammy nomination. Tyrese is also an MTV VJ and a model for Guess, as well as one of People magazine’s “Sexiest Men Alive” and recently made his big screen debut, starring in John Singleton’s latest film, “Baby Boy.” As founder of the 2000 Watts Foundation, Tyrese sponsored a street fair last Labor Day in Watts, a step towards his goal of building a state of-the-art community center in his hometown of Watts, and will continue work with his second annual 2000 Watts day Festival on September 2, 2001.
