Tour Diary #6: Simple Silver

August 18th — Blank Space |  St. Louis, MO

St. Louis is one of my favorite cities in America. Every Time we are here the kids come ready to hang, and that’s such a wonderful feeling. This city reminds me of the beauty appreciation can bring.

I woke up at 2pm after an overnight drive from Des Moines. I had never been more exhausted in my life, but we made it. If there’s one thing tour has taught me it’s that I’m much more capable than I ever thought.  Everyday I am forced to do something I initially don’t think I can do, and that is such an empowering concept.

One of the hardest parts about touring for me is decision making. If you’re going to be in a band that tours you can’t get your way all the time. You’re living in an interstate submarine with 7 other people, and there’s not a lot of personal space for anyone, physically and emotionally. So, when it comes down to the way you live your life on tour, everything affects everyone, and there are many discussions to be had about things I would consider simple back home. I’m finally learning to speak up and share my opinions instead of settling for something easier.

I’m not a person who likes to have a lot of items. I feel they weigh me down, and the only thing of value I carry on me, other than my wallet, is my phone. I am much more a man who likes to live in the moment, uninhibited. Last night as I stepped out of the bar to sneak a stolen cigarette it was raining and I sat in reflection. This may start sounding like blind rhetoric, but I am so lucky that I have the opportunity to be out on the road playing music. Life is easier out here. You wake up and your biggest responsibility is survival, and the show.

Today’s Soundtrack:

Limbeck — “Silver Things”

Limbeck — “This Place is Deserted”
