Tool Singer Sings For Film

Friday June 22 09:34 PM EDT

Tool frontman Maynard James Keenan has lent his vocals to “Ass Kickin’ Fat Kid,” a song that will be included in the forthcoming New Line Cinema film, Run, Ronnie, Run.

Masterminded by David Cross and Bob Odenkirk – the pair behind the now defunct HBO comedy series, Mr. Show With Bob And David – the movie will also feature new material from Ween, the Vandals and former Hole/Smashing Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur.

Recording as the fictional metal band Titannica – portrayed in the film by Odenkirk and actor Brian Posehn – Keenan is joined on the track by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and Hole drummer Samantha Maloney. Despite its appearance in the movie, which hits theaters next spring, New Line warns that the track will absent from the film’s soundtrack album.

The album is slated to feature Auf Der Maur’s take on the Poison weeper, “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn,” Ween’s cover of the Atlanta Rhythm Section’s “Champagne Jam,” plus the Vandal’s rendition of Foreigner’s AOR staple, “Dirty White Boy.”

Based upon the character Ronnie Dobbs, an alleged criminal with several appearances on the television show Cops, Run, Ronnie, Run promises appearances from South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, Newsradio alumnus Dave Foley, Tenacious D’s Jack Black, and actors including Ben Stiller, Jeff Goldblum and Garry Shandling.
