The Strokes Line Up Fall Headlining Tour

Even though a bum knee kept singer Julian Casablancas from performing with his band on select dates of Weezer’s Enlightenment Tour, the Strokes will be back on their collective feet October 1 when they kick off a two-month victory lap around North America.

The tour marks the one-year anniversary of the release of the Strokes’ debut, Is This It?, which has sold over 640,000 copies to date. The NYC garage poster boys are simply happy to be on the road again.

“The album is being received a lot better then I dreamed of two years ago,” Casablancas said. “I really didn’t think anyone would care. Now life is a lot more exciting and complicated, but we gotta work hard because it seems at any moment it could all slip away.”

The Strokes’ fall tour begins in Portland, Maine, loops around the East Coast and South and works its way up the West Coast, hitting big cities and smaller towns alike. No opening acts have been confirmed yet, although the Strokes say they will continue to take indie bands out with them to warm up the crowds as they’ve done in the past.

Before the tour kicks off, fans will have a chance to see the Strokes play a few dates with the White Stripes in Detroit (August 9) and in New York City (August 14-15).

The Strokes and their video for “Last Nite” are up against the Hives, Nappy Roots, Norah Jones, Musiq and Dashboard Confessional for the MTV2 Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The MTV2 Award is decided by fan voting at vma.mtv.com and will be given out, along with the rest of the Moonmen, on August 29 at Radio City Music Hall.
