Sony, Accenture Create Joint Venture

Sony Corp. and Accenture Ltd. have entered into a joint venture intended to aid media companies in their attempts to bring programming to the digital world. According to Bloomberg News, Accenture, formerly Anderson Consulting, will work with Sony to create software, services, and equipment for broadcasters to manage, archive, and distribute digital content ranging from photos to digital music.

The companies announced the partnership at the NAB Convention in Las Vegas, calling the joint venture Concadia Solutions LLC. Norm Rickeman, currently a partner in Accenture’s Media & Entertainment industry group, has been named acting president of Concadia Solutions.

Edward Grebow, deputy president of Sony Electronics says, “Broadcasters, post-production houses and entertainment studios increasingly are looking to manage their substantial digital assets throughout their network and re-purpose them for a variety of media properties, from television to the web. Originally, we hired Accenture as an advisor based upon their understanding of the digital asset management marketplace. As the work progressed, we recognized each other’s complementary strengths, and decided to form Concadia Solutions.”

“We have seen tremendous interest from broadcasters and video content owners in digital asset management, and are excited to form Concadia Solutions with Sony Electronics, a recognized leader in video-based equipment and solutions,” said Hap Brakeley, Accenture North America managing partner, Media & Entertainment industry group. “We are creating an end-to-end solution that combines a broad range of hardware and software with Accenture’s experience in digital asset management.”

Concadia Solutions was formed using staff and resources from Sony Electronics and Accenture and will be headquartered in San Jose, Calif.
