Smash Mouth looked to punk rock giants the Clash for inspiration for “Pacific Coast Party,” the first single from its upcoming self-titled album, due November 11 from Interscope Records.
The song, written by bassist Paul DeLisle, arrives at radio this week. Smash Mouth guitarist Greg Camp explains the Clash connection to LAUNCH. “It’s sorta like the Clash when they were sorta going through a disco phase, when they were sorta fighting, like, ‘Are we gonna be punk rock or disco?’ Which is bizarre. It’s kinda like that. That was, like, one of my favorite things about the Clash. You could just hear that intensity.”
Smash Mouth is set to hit the road for a club tour beginning September 21 in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania.
