Saliva To Re-Record Classic 'Theme From Peter Gunn' Song For Midway's SpyHunter Videogame

Midway Games Inc., a leading software industry publisher and developer, announced today that Island Gold Recording act Saliva will re-record the popular song “Theme From Peter Gunn,” for the all-new remake of the classic SpyHunter ® videogame, scheduled to ship this fall for the PlayStation ®2 computer entertainment system.

Saliva will record two new versions of “Theme From Peter Gunn,” one instrumental format as well as a lyrical version. Both are expected to be used to add intensity to the relentless action in the SpyHunter videogame. Additionally, a music video containing behind-the-scenes footage of Saliva’s recording session and band interviews is planned to be available for viewing in the SpyHunter videogame special DVD feature.

“We are thrilled to work with a cutting-edge band like Saliva,” said Helene Sheeler, vice president of marketing, Midway. “Saliva’s fresh take on ‘Theme From Peter Gunn’ is a perfect match for Midway’sremake of SpyHunter.”

“Theme From Peter Gunn,” used in the original SpyHunter videogame, is the theme song from the detective show, Peter Gunn. The song is a work of acclaimed composer, Henry Mancini, whose other works include “Pink Panther” and “Baby Elephant Walk.”

With their song “Your Disease” currently in MTV’s Top Ten Modern Rock Tracks chart and number nine on Billboard’s Modern Rock Track chart, Memphis, Tennessee rockers, Saliva, continue to create their unique blend of musical genres – hard rock with hints of hip-hop and grunge. Just months after the band’s formation in September of 1996, Saliva was a finalist in a Grammy Showcase competition sponsored by the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. Shortly after, the band released its first album, Saliva, independently and sold 10,000 copies. Comprised of Josey Scott on vocals, Chris Dabaldo and Wayne Swinny on guitars, Dave Novotny on bass and Paul Crosby on drums, the quintet recently released their major label debut, Every Six Seconds, earlier this year after signing with Island Records.

In SpyHunter the player is on a mission to save the world in a non-stop, action-intense game of mission-based vehicular espionage with breathtaking full-motion-video cut scenes, where the hunter is also the hunted. The SpyHunter player must complete 14 high-adrenaline missions in a variety of exotic worldwide locations in order to defeat the evil multinational corporation, NOSTRA. With next-generation 3D design, incredible high-tech weaponry and a sleek new vehicle – the G-6155 Interceptor – the SpyHunter player must make split-second decisions while engaging in offensive attacks and defensive counter-attacks.

The G-6155 Interceptor is the ultimate counterintelligence prototype vehicle with morphing abilities, futuristic weaponry and lightening-fast speed. Depending on the terrain and danger the SpyHunter player faces, the Interceptor transforms into a car, boat, jet ski or motorcycle – making it a true all-terrain vehicle.
