Radio Free Virgin Sings The Blues

Radio Free Virgin has unveiled its newest programming channel, “The Crossroads,” offering blues music and historical content surrounding the genre.

The new offering brings the total number of genres to 20 that are carried over more than 40 channels, which are streamed through RFV’s proprietary streaming media player. More than 2 million people have downloaded the RFV player since the site launched in early 1999.

“The Crossroads” features hundreds of recordings as well the history of the genre with detailed information, rare photographs, and audio and video from the archives of the University of Mississippi and private collections. World renown musicians, music foundations, and educational institutions have partnered with Radio Free Virgin in paying homage to blues. Promotional partners include Fender, Buddy Guy’s Legends, and the Estate of Muddy Waters.

“Blues music has permeated every facet of music and influenced countless musicians worldwide. Radio Free Virgin is proud to offer this premier programming channel, celebrating our vibrant past and present, to our global audience of music fans,” stated Zack Zalon, GM Radio Free Virgin. “With the support of such legendary names in blues, ‘The Crossroads’ channel offers a complete look at this influential genre and those who shaped its history.”

Radio Free Virgin’s “The Crossroads” Blues channel is programmed with the help of Peter Aschoff, Ph.D., one of the reigning musicologist scholars in the world, and a professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Mississippi. Aschoff was producer of the National Public Radio show Hello Blues, How You Feel Today? funded by the National Endowment for the Arts and NPR. He has also been a contributing writer to Living Blues Magazine for almost two decades.
