No Doubt admits that when they sit down to write a song they don’t have their fans in mind. They write what they like. Singer Gwen Stefani says that they’d be sell-outs if they wrote songs purposely because they thought their fans would like them. She jokes that they are selfish and only do it for themselves.
Due to their need to write for themselves the band has noticed a recurring problem: many of their songs are complicated. The group has tried to write simpler tunes but have found that they just can’t.
