Michael Jackson, Mick Jagger, James Brown, Ricky Martin, Kiss and ‘N Sync will come together for the “United We Stand” benefit concert in Washington as the music community continues its efforts to aid the victims of last month’s terrorist attacks on in New York and Washington. Aerosmith, Al Green and Backstreet Boys also have been confirmed as part of the eclectic lineup.
The Clear Channel Entertainment event will be held Oct. 21 at RFK Stadium in Washington. All proceeds from “United We Stand” will benefit the American Red Cross Relief Fund, the Pentagon Relief Fund and the Salvation Army Relief Fund.
“Music is a common language that brings people together in times of triumph and sadness,” Clear Channel Entertainment chairman and CEO Brian Becker said. “We support the president’s call for unity and are extremely proud to contribute in any way we can to help these stellar artists raise money to assist in recovery efforts and to show their support for the military who are risking their lives for our safety.”
This marks the fourth benefit event produced by Clear Channel. In addition to Monday night’s “Stand Up New York” event, the entertainment conglomerate is also behind “Concert for the Americas,” to be held Oct. 20 at Madison Square Garden in New York, and “Country Freedom Concert,” scheduled for Oct. 21 in Nashville.
