Hoobastank Ends Tour With 311, Starts Trek With Incubus

Hoobastank is finishing up dates with 311 on Wednesday (April 10) in Kansas City. The band is scheduled join Incubus on the Honda Civic tour on Thursday (April 11) in Portland, Oregon.

Incubus vocalist Brandon Boyd and company asked their good friends in Hoobastank to open up for them a few years back even before the band had a recording contract. Hoobastank also opened for its fellow California rockers late last year.

LAUNCH asked Hoobastank’s Doug Robb and Dan Estrin how the band’s approach has changed since its run of dates with Incubus last year.

“I don’t think our approach has changed for a long time,” Robb said.

Estrin added, “I think we’ve experienced a lot since the first time we went out with them, and we know what to expect going out this time. It’s definitely not going to be as fresh.”

Robb continued, “Maybe we should change the set.”

Estrin said, “It’s not going to be as exciting and new, but it’s still going to be a great tour.”

The last time out with Incubus, Hoobastank was booked as an opener for one-third of the dates, and was the best-received opening act on the bill. “After the tour I ran into Brandon at a store back home,” noted Estrin. “And I was just talking with him, like, ‘How was the rest of the tour?’ And he’s like, ‘It was really good, but we realized we should have kept you on the entire tour. The other two bands that came on didn’t get the same response you did.'”

Robb added, “I think in that aspect it’s a good fit. If you like one band you’ll probably like the other.”

Hoobastank’s “Crawling In The Dark” is currently Number Four on the Billboard Modern Rock chart.
