DMX To Receive Special Award

Rapper-actor DMX will receive a special award Tuesday night (December 4) at the 2001 Billboard Music Awards ceremony at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The award recognizes DMX as the first artist ever to have his first four albums debut at Number One on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

The rapper’s latest album, The Great Depression, is currently Number 24 on the Billboard 200 albums chart after debuting in the top spot. The set has sold more than a million copies in the five weeks since its release. DMX’s previous Number One releases include his 1998 debut album, It’s Dark & Hell Is Hot, 1998’s Flesh Of My Flesh, Blood Of My Blood, and 1999’s…And Then There Was X.

In related news, Bernie Mac is scheduled to host the 2001 Billboard Music Awards, which will feature performances byAlicia Keys, Eve, Angie Stone, Incubus, Tim McGraw, No Doubt, *NSYNC, and Shaggy.

In addition to DMX’s special award, John Mellencamp is scheduled to receive the Billboard Century Award at the event. The ceremony will air live at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
