Damageplan May Have Enough Dimebag Darrell Material For A New Album

With the metal world still reeling from the shocking murder of Dimebag Darrell Abbott, it seems that a second Damageplan album might be in the works.

Damageplan’s manager Paul Bassman recently told Billboard.com of a nearly completed recording that the band had laid down just prior to Abbott’s death. Bassman also mentioned that according to Abbott’s brother, Damageplan drummer Vinnie Paul, the band have every intention to get the music to the fans as soon as possible. It’s not known how much material was completed or when the album may be released.

When Abbott was killed, Damageplan were touring behind their debut album New Found Power, which was released in 2003. The first release from the Abbott brothers since they left Pantera, the album was met with much attention and a fair amount of controversy among Pantera fans.

Darrell was shot to death by Nathan Gale at Damageplan’s December 8, 2004 show at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio. Erin Halk, who worked security at the club was also killed, as was a member of the band’s security staff, Jeff “Mayhem” Thompson. Still recovering from gunshot wounds are tour manager Chris Paluska and drum tech John “Kat” Brooks.
