Even in its early days of release, Devil’s Night-the new album from D12, the Detroit rap group that includes solo superstar Eminem-is drawing criticism for its lyrical content about drugs, booze, weapons, raping grandmothers, having sex with pit bulls, and exacting violent revenge on enemies.
This certainly isn’t news to Eminem fans, who have grown used to the “Parental Advisory” stickers that grace his albums, as well as Devil’s Night. And that certainly hasn’t been enough to keep it from blowing out of stores, with an expected debut at Number One in next week’s Billboard.
MC Proof, who co-founded D12 a decade ago, told LAUNCH the group has no qualms about anything it put on the record. “See, the whole idea when D12 was first formed was to say s-t that everybody thinks but nobody wants to say,” Proof said. “Nobody wants to talk about a handicapped girl, nobody wants to talk about fat people, you know what I’m sayin’? Nobody wants to do these things. But this s-t exists. It’s so funny, ’cause [there’s] nothin’ we say or done, even that Em writes, either, that we created. It’s all here on Earth. We only talk about what we see. We reporters ourself, you know what I’m sayin’?”
D12 will perform on the latter part of this year’s Vans Warped Tour, and also has plans for its own headlining tour in the fall.
