Christina Aguilera And Jimmy Smits To Co-Host 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards

Grammy-winning artist Christina Aguilera and Emmy Award-winning actor Jimmy Smits will co-host the 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards telecast.

Grammy-winning artist Marc Anthony will perform, and Destiny’s Child will perform with the previously announced Alejandro Sanz, it was announced today by Michael Greene, President/CEO of the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy. The show will originate from the Forum in Los Angeles on September 11 and be broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 9-11 p.m. (EDT/PDT). Additional performers and presenters will be announced shortly.

Named Best New Artist at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards for her self-titled debut album, Christina Aguilera is currently nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Album. Emmy Award-winning actor and co-owner of one of Los Angeles’ premier Latin music venues, Jimmy Smits co-hosted the 1st Annual Latin Grammy Awards last year. He will next be seen in “Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones,” scheduled for release in 2002.

Superstar Marc Anthony has won both a Grammy and Latin Grammy Award. Anthony has arguably sold more records than any salsa singer in the world, and has sold out Madison Square Garden five times. In addition to his musical talents, he has appeared on Broadway, and on the silver screen in Martin Scorsese’s “Bringing Out the Dead” and Stanley Tucci’s “Big Night,” among others.

Destiny’s Child will perform with Alejandro Sanz on the telecast. The group won a Grammy for Best R&B Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal for “Say My Name” at the 43rd Annual Grammy Awards in February. Sanz earned five Latin Grammy nominations this year, including Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for the title song from the album El Alma Al Aire. The album itself was nominated for Best Pop Male Vocal Album and Album Of The Year. Sanz also was nominated for Best Music Video for the video “Cuando Nadie Me Ve.”

The 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards will be telecast by CBS domestically, and broadcast on radio via Westwood One/the Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation worldwide. The ceremony will boast awards in 38 key categories covering many genres and sub-genres of Latin music and will feature performances from some of the genre’s biggest artists.

The 2nd Annual Latin Grammy Awards is produced by Cossette Productions. Pierre and John Cossette are executive producers; Ken Ehrlich is producer/writer; Walter Miller is producer/director; and Tisha Fein is coordinating producer.
