Chili Peppers' Releasing Home Video, Working On New LP

Fireplaces and feet are not the only places you’ll see tube socks this Christmas season. Southern California funk rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose members occasionally wear only a strategically placed tube sock, are getting ready to release their first concert video in a decade.

“Off the Map,” due December 4 on VHS and DVD, was filmed by Dick Rude at a September 2000 show in Portland, Oregon.

The video includes recent Chili Peppers hits “Californication,” “Scar Tissue,” “Otherside,” “Under the Bridge” and “Give It Away,” along with older gems like “Blackeyed Blonde” from 1985’s Freaky Styley, according to a spokesperson at Warner Bros.

Also included are covers of Jimi Hendrix’s “Fire,” Public Enemy’s “You’re Gonna Get Yours,” Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” and Funkadelic’s “What Is Soul?”

The DVD version of “Off the Map” includes an additional 50 minutes of backstage and interview footage, plus live clips of “Parallel Universe,” “Sir Psycho Sexy,” “Skinny Sweaty Man,” “I Could Have Lied” and a cover of the Stooges classic “Search and Destroy.”

The Chili Peppers entered a Los Angeles studio last week with producer Rick Rubin (Beastie Boys, Rage Against the Machine) to begin recording their next album, according to their management.

The group will perform in Los Angeles on December 14 as part of the Silver Lining Silver Lake benefit show for the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic. Bassist Flea opened the Silverlake Conservatory of Music in that area last month and plans to teach trumpet and bass lessons there.
