CenterSpan Files for Additional Patent Rights

CenterSpan Communications Corp., the leading provider of next generation peer-to-peer secure content distribution solutions, recently filed for two patents to protect what it calls Multi-Source Peer Streaming technology. The technology was developed by CenterSpan for implementation as part of the C-star Content Delivery Platform.

The two recent patent applications are in addition to 12 previously filed provisional and utility patent applications that CenterSpan is pursuing with respect to technologies developed by the companies, Supertracks.com, Inc. and Scour, Inc.

“Our patent portfolio is a key asset as we launch C-star, our global content distribution solution,” said Frank G. Hausmann, chairman and CEO. “A cornerstone of CenterSpan’s strategy is to develop and maintain proprietary technology that strongly differentiates our capabilities in the marketplace. The filing of patent applications for Multi-Source Peer Streaming now allows us to speak openly about all of the specific technical features of C-star. We have been showing these features to potential customers under non-disclosure agreements over the past several months.”

The Multi-Source Peer Streaming patent applications are for two aspects of a network system supporting the streaming of multimedia content from multiple peers through a connection to a content player running on a user’s computer. The distributed network data management system includes centralized management control over the transfer of data files from data servers to remote-user computer systems. The system also includes a last-element cache content controller residing on a user’s computer as an element of a distributed network cache system. The cache content controller is responsive to information provided by a remote content server system and to requests by the content player to select content files for streaming transfer to the content player.
